Kybella

As we age and live our daily lives, our bodies tend to go through changes we never saw coming – and sometimes, a quick glance in the mirror causes us to re-evaluate our overall look. If you’ve noticed excess fat in your chin or neck region and want to do something about it, you might consider a non-surgical treatment called Kybella. All it requires is about 45 minutes of your time, a few treatment sessions, and a little courage to receive some injections – and in no time, you’ll love the skin you’re in.

Submental fullness, otherwise known as a double chin, is something nobody wants to contend with. If you’re tired of wearing turtlenecks, sweaters, scarves and hiding behind your hair, you should know you no longer need to feel ashamed of how you look. Kybella is an incredible tool that works – and it’s FDA approved, too.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is the only FDA approved injectable that targets and destroys fat cells.

It is comprised of what is known as deoxycholic acid, a synthetic form of the naturally occurring variant, which is produced in the liver. This component is responsible for stopping fat accumulation – and that’s precisely what injections of Kybella aim to do. Stubborn fat can be banished with an injection regimen of Kybella. Unlike laser treatments or liposuction, Kybella is quick, virtually painless, and requires no downtime – and it’s one of the safest options in the way of cosmetic procedures.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella stops accumulating pre-existing and potential fat cells from gathering virtually anywhere in the body, but most usually in the chin and neck area. Kybella works best as a series of injections.

Each treatment session uses anywhere from 3 or more vials of Kybella, and the product is administered in many small areas in various injection sites. Some people require only a few treatments, while others may require a maximum of 6 total injections over the course of 6 months. One month is needed between appointments to allow the product time to work effectively. Most people will see results after just 2 treatments or two months into the treatment. For some, the timeframe may differ.

Who Is Kybella For?

Kybella is generally safe for anyone over 18 who doesn't struggle with any ongoing health issues.

Individuals with a decent amount of chin and neck fat that would instead go the injection route than the liposuction route are great candidates for Kybella. If you’ve been on a weight loss journey and aren’t seeing results in your chin and neck area, Kybella might be an excellent option for you. More recently, Kybella has been used to treat other areas of fat accumulation such as the hips, thighs, backs of arms, love handles, and stomach areas – and the results have proven remarkable. Remember, you don’t have to live with the areas that reduce your self-esteem. There is hope and a fantastic, non-invasive solution with Kybella.

What Are the Benefits of Kybella Injections?

Kybella offers benefits such as:

  • tightening of the chin area
  • reduction in the accumulation of fat deposits in the chin and neck area
  • provides a more youthful appearance
  • safer than liposuction and other surgical procedures
  • next to no downtime is required after each injection
  • next to no side effects reported

What Does Kybella Feel Like?

Kybella is virtually painless compared to many other treatment types.

You may experience a brief stinging sensation with each injection, and swelling of the injection sites may occur. Bruising is also common with the first and second treatments. Aside from those few things, most individuals have no side effects, and you should be able to go about your day as usual once you’ve received injections. Some people may experience a severe allergic reaction; however, the chances of that happening are extremely rare.

You may choose to cover your chin and neck area with scarves or high-necked clothing to hide the injection site until the swelling and needle marks disappear. This usually occurs within a few days to a week.

Some ladies receive their injections on their lunch breaks and go straight to work because it’s a quick process. You can easily come in, receive your treatment and be out the door in less than an hour.

What Does Kybella Cost?

The cost of Kybella varies per individual based on the area needing to be treated and its severity.

The more work an individual needs, the more expensive the treatment will be, as more vials of Kybella will need to be injected. Typically, an individual can expect to start at 3 vials of Kybella to be used per application. A typical starting price for Kybella injections is $1,300.

Common FAQs

There is virtually no downtime after Kybella treatment. You may choose to hide the area or stay home until the area looks more presentable; however, there is no reason you should be bedridden by any means.

The most common side effects are pain, swelling, and bruising in the area. Rarely, more severe side effects may occur – but the probability of that happening is minimal. If a severe side effect were to occur, it may involve difficulty swallowing, which would last for a few days, hives in the treatment area, nausea or vomiting.

Results vary per individual, but most patients report seeing noticeable results after just 2 treatments.

If you are pregnant, nursing, have an existing infection of any sort, or are on blood thinning medications, you may need to seek alternative treatment methods or hold off until treatment is safe. Always discuss your medical history and current medications with your provider before undergoing any treatment, including Kybella.
